Nkosi: I will be a Bok again!

Sbu Nkosi has vowed to earn his place back with the Springboks after getting a chance to resurrect his rugby career at the Cheetahs.

Nkosi has signed a one-year contract with the Cheetahs, that will run until 30 June 2025.

It comes eight months after Nkosi’s troubled stint at the Vodacom Bulls came to an end with his contract being terminated by mutual consent, leaving him in the rugby wilderness.

The 28-year-old has already started training with his new team in Bloemfontein and could make his debut in a warm-up match against the Griquas on Saturday, 9 March, in Jacobsdal.

A member of the 2019 World Cup-winning squad, Nkosi has not played for the Springboks since starting against the Wallabies on the Gold Coast in October 2021.

However, in an interview with Sunday newspaper Rapport, Nkosi gave a short and simple answer when asked about his desire to win his place back with the Boks.

“I will,” he told Rapport.

Nkosi will be working under the watchful eye of director of rugby Frans Steyn at the Cheetahs, as he looks to overcome the well-documented issues that caused a rift between himself and the Bulls.

Steyn and Nkosi were Bok teammates at the 2019 World Cup.

“Frans is more like a friend,” Nkosi said. “We have always been very interested in each other. A friendship that rises above any differences and circumstances.

“I am grateful to him, and it goes without saying that he is a wonderful person.

“I am grateful for an opportunity at the Cheetahs to live out my passion and more grateful that it is in a historic place like Bloem.”
