Jake hails 'strongest prop' Louw

Jake White says Wilco Louw is the “strongest prop in the world” while hailing the Springbok tighthead’s impact since arriving at the Vodacom Bulls.

Louw joined the Vodacom Bulls from English side Harlequins ahead of the current season after spending nearly four years in London.

The 29-year-old’s arrival at Loftus Versfeld has helped the Bulls turn their scrum into a real weapon and his form was rewarded with a call into the first Springbok alignment camp of the year, held in Cape Town.

In an interview with Sunday newspaper Rapport, White said that Louw is “physically the strongest prop there is”.

“The first is that he has been playing tight end for a very long time. He is not a player who played a different position and was then made a prop,” White told Rapport.

"There is a greater emphasis on scrum work in the northern hemisphere. It helped him tremendously.

“You are also talking here about an Afrikaans-speaking guy from HTS Drostdy who went to a club like Harlequins in the center of London. So he also had to grow as a thinker. It’s not just all power.”

Louw made his Springbok debut in the 2017 Rugby Championship match against the All Blacks at Newlands. He earned the last of his 14 Test caps in the 32-12 win against Argentina at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in 2021.
