Tom Botha will miss the Vodacom URC match between the DHL Stormers and Ospreys at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday after he was suspended for foul play last week.

The tighthead prop has received a three-week suspension following an independent disciplinary hearing regarding his actions in the Challenge Cup quarter-final against Gloucester.

Botha was cited for a dangerous hit on centre Seb Atkinson, violating Law 9.13. The committee found that Botha’s tackle warranted a red card and upheld the citing complaint.

Considering the mid-range classification of the offence, a six-week entry point was established. However, with Botha’s admission of foul play and his clean disciplinary record, the committee reduced the sanction by 50%.

The Bellville-born scrummager will be eligible to play again on 13 May, unless he chooses to undertake a World Rugby coaching intervention, in which case he could return on 29 April. Both Botha and EPCR retain the right to appeal the decision.
