Stormers star snubbed by Springboks now heading overseas

At the Stormers, this past season has once again demonstrated how Hacjivah Dayimani is blessed with an abundance of talent, and there was a real sense that this would be the year when the 26-year-old could throw his name into the Springbok ring.

With immense mobility and plenty of soft skills, Dayimani could really come into the national reckoning if he brings sturdy defence, increased physicality and high work rate to the mix.

The talented forward has the ability to play across the back row, and yet the Springbok coaches ultimately opted against including him in any of their alignment camps.

In recent weeks, his form has also waned to some degree, and it was ultimately no real surprise when he wasn’t included in the latest 35-man squad on the eve of the 2024 Test season.

"We certainly looked at Hacjivah (Dayimani). When we looked at his roadmap, and I am not talking specifically about him, I am talking about other loose forwards competing with other loose forwards and how many battles you get into and how many battles you win. If you look at hookers and you look at how many tries they scored, then all of them should be Springboks. They are at the back of a maul, and they score eight tries. We look at your workrate and your understanding. When you make a tackle, do you dominate that tackle?", Erasmus asked.

"If Cheslin was just stepping, guys, we would never pick Cheslin. But Cheslin is tackling guys, he is stealing balls, he is going up for the high ball, so he is a complete player. I am not talking about Hacjivah (Dayimani) specifically, but there are a lot of players that are really good, but they are not complete. Hacjivah is not out of the mix in terms of playing a Test match this year. There is always a possibility,” he concluded.

Heading overseas?

Dayimani has reportedly attracted interest from multiple foreign clubs looking to lure him from Cape Town at the end of the season.

Believed to feel aggrieved by his Springbok omissions, it’s thought that the most likely destination for the Stormers’ Hacjivah Dayimani will be France.
