Jamie Ritchie to depart Edinburgh and join new club, confirms Scotland flanker

Scotland star Jamie Ritchie is set to leave Edinburgh at the end of the season, bringing an end to his 11-year spell with the club as he signs a two-year deal with USA Perpignan.

The former Scotland captain had been in talks over a contract extension, but Edinburgh confirmed they were informed a few days ago that Ritchie had opted for a fresh challenge in France's Top 14 instead.

Ritchie, who made his Edinburgh debut in 2014 before earning his first Scotland cap in 2018, signed a record-breaking long-term deal with the club in 2021. But now, at 28, he feels the time is right to move on.

"I have literally grown up at this club over the last 10 years and this has been an incredibly hard decision for me and my family to move on," Ritchie told Edinburgh's website.

"I have absolutely loved my time here… but now is the time for a new challenge in a new country. As always, I will be fully committed to the team until the end of the season."

With Edinburgh looking to manage their wage budget and create space for emerging back-row talent, Ritchie's departure marks the end of an era—one that saw him become a fan favourite and a key leader for both club and country.
