Meanwhile, Wales etched their name in history as they became the first team to secure a spot in the quarter-finals with a commanding victory over Australia in Lyon.

In a nail-biting showdown on Saturday, Ireland emerged victorious against the defending champions with a final scoreline of 13-8 in Paris. Fly-half maestro Johnny Sexton played a pivotal role in this triumph, contributing with a penalty and a conversion, boosting his tally to 45 points, thus cementing his status as the tournament’s leading point-scorer.

On the following Sunday, Lyon bore witness to a one-sided affair, as Wales displayed their dominance by trouncing the Wallabies with an emphatic 40-6 victory in Pool C.
