The 31-year-old denied allegations of behaving abusively towards the mother of his four children during a court appearance at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.

He also pleaded not guilty to charges related to causing fear and alarm during an incident in February, as well as failing to comply with conditions subsequent to his release from police custody.

Accompanied by his parents, Hogg was granted bail with specific stipulations barring him from contacting his estranged wife and entering her residence in the East Boonraw area of Hawick.

He received permission to use the side entrance of the courthouse, typically reserved for lawyers and court personnel, in order to evade cameras and public attention.

Subsequently, he was granted entry to the witness room where he could await his case being called.

Having retired from professional rugby prior to the previous year’s World Cup, the former Glasgow and Exeter fullback boasts an impressive career, with over a hundred senior caps and participation in three British and Irish Lions tours.

He holds the title of Scotland’s all-time leading try scorer and was honored with an MBE in the 2024 New Year Honours List for his contributions to rugby union.

Hogg is scheduled to appear in court again on July 15 for an intermediate hearing preceding his trial on July 30.
