This game feels extremely high stakes. Saracens return to StoneX this weekend for a huge Gallagher Premiership clash against Leicester Tigers, in what is shaping up to be a defining fixture in the race for the top four. The Premiership (yes, I refuse to call it the Prem still) season seems to have dragged this year. I rather don’t understand the apparent desire to ringfence the league, with yet another season of no relegation or promotion. This undoubtedly will change what with the Worcester Warriors return to professional rugby in the Championship and potentially London Irish coming back under the fan-led model with Kyle Jordan (eddie’s son) leading this. I digress slightly but I feel it’s important to look ahead as well as reflect on the current scenario we find ourselves in.Our season has been anything but predictable. Heavy and mentally-draining defeats earlier on in the campaign raised questions about leadership and the so-called transition we were undergoing, but that excellent 85–19 demolition of Sale last weekend showed exactly how we can play when things click. That result highlighted Sarries’ (hopefully ever growing) attacking ceiling and more importantly, it has certainly kept our playoff hopes alive what with Exeter losing their game against Saints. Leicester, meanwhile, have quietly built one of the most consistent runs in the league, winning five of their last six matches and sitting third in the table with a strong points difference. What has really been prominent from them this season is the depth that squad possesses, and momentum they’ve managed to sustain even over international periods.
