Bulls confident of 'Mission: Impossible 2'

Johan Grobbelaar was part of the team that provided one of the URC’s major upsets against Leinster in 2022 and is confident the Vodacom Bulls can do it again on Friday night. DYLAN JACK reports.

Grobbelaar was the starting hooker when the Vodacom Bulls held on for a 27-26 victory in the 2021-22 semi-finals in Dublin.

That result was perhaps the catalyst for an intense rivalry developing between South Africa and Ireland that has carried through to the Test arena.

Another chapter to that rivalry will be added on Friday night, as the Bulls are back in Dublin to face Leinster for the first time since that semi-final.

“It starts here in the URC, the South African teams playing against the Irish teams,” Grobbelaar said.

“It’s a great feeling coming back to Dublin. We are staying in the same hotel and playing on the same field.

“It’s not an easy task, but we have done it before. We showed that it’s not impossible. We believe we have a good chance.

“We have prepared well this week. Leinster are one of the best teams in Europe, so it’s not going to be easy.

“We did the impossible. So we know we can do it again. It’s lekker to be the underdog. Everyone expects Leinster to win, so it’s a lekker position to be in and we can only surprise them.”
