URC rewind: Bulls upset Leinster giants
27/03/2024 11:30
The Vodacom Bulls are back in Dublin for the first time since the 2021-22 URC semi-finals, when Jake White’s team provided an upset for the history books by beating eight-time champions Leinster.
Morne Steyn’s 76th-minute penalty gave the Vodacom Bulls enough of a buffer to see out a 27-26 victory, in one of the biggest upsets in the URC’s history.
Hooker Johan Grobbelaar and captain Marcell Coetzee scored first-half tries for the Bulls, who were also awarded a penalty try in the second half. Chris Smith converted both tries and added a penalty to send the Bulls to the final.
It was the first time that Leinster had lost a home URC playoff since 2017.
